Let’s Play Ball!

Cherryland Electric Cooperative holds its annual members meeting this Wednesday, June 10, at Wuerfel Park, before the Beach Bums game. Registration begins at 3 p.m.; the meeting starts at 4 p.m. sharp.

If you’re a member, we hope you’ll show up—for two reasons: First, you get four free tickets to the game! Second, you can discuss and vote on two vital member resolutions. Both concern transparency, which is crucial in a member-owned and -operated utility.

Resolution 1-A

“Since the Wolverine Power Cooperative’s proposed Rogers City coal plant has been in development for at least three years, the members, by open vote at the June 10, 2008 Annual Meeting, petition the Cherryland Board of Directors to fully disclose to the general membership within 30 days of this date (June 10, 2009) the estimated cost of the plant and the estimated future effect on electric rates of the project.”

Follow-up to the Election: There was quite a bit of discussion on about this resolution. Some speakers presented the feeling that a thirty-day limitation on Cherryland Electric Cooperative created an undue hardship on the management. The resolution was defeated as worded. It is unfortunate that the membership in attendence voted against their own best interest and right to know how our own money is being spent.
